We are excited to announce that we have majorly upgraded our black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) for chickens: it’s now grown in the USA and grown organically (which also means non-GMO)!
Mealworms and BSFL are almost always grown in China – we’ve searched and searched for a USA source and they are extremely difficult to find. But, we finally found a grower raising them on pre-consumed, pre-consumer products such as unsold fruits, vegetables, and grains from California farmers markets and grocery stores – the same real food you would feed your family.
They are working on their organic certification so we can’t say they’re “certified” organic yet but that should happen at some point.
With the higher-quality product the price did go up slightly but still at an excellent price even if you don’t care about them being organic or USA-grown. A five-gallon bucket is now $44 and if you bring the bucket and lid back, we’ll give you a $5 credit, making the cost $39.
We clean and then refill the buckets so there’s virtually no packaging waste, plus it’s way easier to store and use – another big win for everyone!
