Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) is a herbaceous perennial that grows in zones 5-8, or as annual in colder climates. It’s a look-a-like to German Chamomile and is also a self seeding plant, like Chamomile. It will spread if you aren’t careful! The plant forms in a clump about 3 to 4 feet tall, and thrives in full sun to partial shade. Start seeds in spring by sowing them on the surface of the soil and pressing them firmly into the soil.
In herbal preparations, all the aerial parts are used. Feverfew is generally known for its use in treating migraines. In order to use it for migraines, it’s recommended that you use it very regularly; it will take time for you to see the effects.
Feverfew helps with migraines because it can reduce spasms, so keep in mind that it can be used for other conditions where you need an antispasmodic herb. It can also be used to reduce fever (hence the name). Feverfew can be taken in tea, tincture, or capsule form.
